Royal Skousen commendably accounts for something the other apologists barely even try to account for: the historical evidence for tight translation. But he ends up failing to account for things they account for, like the obvious evidence for the use of the KJV Bible in the Book of Mormon. For the Book of Mormon believer, there's always a tradeoff. You can't account for everything at once.
Fortunately, they don't have to. The lay apologist can point to Skousen to account for one set of data points, and to Ostler to account for another. No need for consistency; the important thing is that someone has an answer for everything. The big names, like Skousen, are held accountable for consistency. The message boardians of MADB, however, can get away with holding contradictory views.
